Claire’s Baby Diary #13

So, Elsie is now 8 and a half months old!! She will be 9 months at the end of August!! It’s flown by so quickly but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it even when she’s been sick on me…..and with a baby who suffers with acid reflux that can happen lots during the day!

Elsie is now sitting up by herself, babbling away with a few words such as Dadda and Row – note that she’s not yet saying ’mum’ although I think she tries too - and more importantly she has 2 bottom teeth which look so cute! We didn’t even know that she was teething as she was so good when they started to come through, it was only by chance that I thought I’d have a feel of her gums that I noticed her first tooth was cutting through. She’s been such a good girl, we can’t complain at all! I’m pleased to say that she is still sleeping throughout the night, although ay schedule at the moment means that I am only having up to 5 hours sleep a night as I’m busy but I sometimes (OK, often) make up for it when Elsie has her afternoon nap, we have a cuddle or lie down together and drift off for  a nap together….I love it! Once I see that her eyes are slowly closing I usually go to sleep too.  It’s a lovely way to catch up with my sleep as I’m one of those annoying people who NEED at least 8 hours a night in order to function relatively well. However, since having Elsie I don’t think I’ve had more than 8 hours sleep in one go, I seem to manage now on at least 6 hours….less than that and I turn into Shrek!

She’s nearly crawling now too so we’re baby proofing the house with things such as stair gates and plug covers so we’re ready.

I’ve recently sorted out all of her clothes that don’t fit her anymore. I felt quite sad packing away her clothes, some of them she hadn’t even worn! Still, they are all packed away in a suitcase ready for eith baby number 2 or for any of my friends to borrow when they’re time comes.
I am very broody now too which is worrying!! I didn’t think I’d want another baby for at least two years but I’ve seen so many pregnant women in the last week or so that I’ve been thinking that maybe it’s some sort of sign!! We would definitely like to have a second baby and don’t want a big gap between Elsie and her little brother or sister but I always said I want us to enjoy Elsie as much as possible first. I know that with a second baby I won’t be as lucky to have the time with him/her that I’ve had with Elsie over the last (nearly) 9 months as obviously she’ll still need and want me too. Still, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!

I recently celebrated my first birthday as a mummy…we took Elsie for her first trip to the seaside. I think she enjoyed it, it certainly knocked her out for a couple of hours on the way home! We’ve also booked our first mini-holiday, a long weekend away, which I’m looking forward to although am a bit nervous about. I keep wondering if everything we’ll need will fit into the car as the pram just fits into the boot with not much room for anything else!! We should have got a bigger car but didn’t even think about it at the time!!

Anywany, enough of my chit chat….I have baby meals to cook and prepare – and who would’ve thought I’d ever be saying that!!

Here are a couple of recent photos that I took of my beautiful baby girl at 8 months old.
